Egyptian Cartouche Pendant in 14ct Gold
This beautiful pendant was made in Egypt, in the style of an ancient Egyptian cartouche, and was probably made to be sold to tourists who were visiting the sites of ancient Egypt. In hieroglyphs, a cartouche would surround the name of royalty - so when you look at ancient carvings, and see this shape, it means the name of a royal is inside! While some of these symbols are real hieroglyphics (eg the circle with the centre dot, which symbolised the sun or day), I don’t think that it actually spells anything, and they were simply picked for their beauty.
Overall this pendant is in great shape! I think originally there was a higher carat gold wash on top of the slightly rosey 14ct gold, and this is still visible in some spots (although it has largely worn off). There is some light wear to the gold, but overall in great condition and ready to wear!
14ct gold (marked in four places with Egyptian hallmarks, but I can’t find much information about them! The gold has been tested to confirm)
Measures approx 39mm long (including bale) and 12.5mm across at the widest point. Weighs approx 3.16g.
