This lovely pendant is made from a Colombian Escudo coin, dating from 1834. The coin has lovely designs on both sides, and could be worn with either side as the front! One side of the coin features a bust of Liberty, and the other shows two cornucopias and a central bow and arrow. This side is also marked for Bogota, which is where this coin was made in 1834.
At some point the 21ct gold coin was transformed into a pendant, with a 9ct gold bale being a later addition. It’s been nicely done and really lets this lovely coin shine as a pendant! The coin is still in great shape, although is warped very slightly of shape so it’s not perfectly flat. There is some scratching and surface wear to the coin, but overall the coin is still in great shape and ready to wear!
21ct gold coin with later 9ct gold bale (unmarked but tested)
Measures approx 15.5mm across. Weighs approx 1.89g.
