Antique Old Cut White Sapphire Pendants

These pendants are truly a special find! They would have been part of a larger piece, or maybe set, of jewellery when they were originally made in the early - mid 1800’s. I was so lucky to find both of these!
The white sapphires are old cut and have so much character! It’s a real treat to find such large old cut gems too - you can really see the unique facet patterns in gems of this size!
The gems are set in silver and surrounded by a 14ct yellow gold frame. This was the typical way to set colourless gemstones at the time, as white gold wasn’t commonly used until the 1920’s. There are some losses to the claws which hold the silver set gem in the gold frame, but the gems are still secure. The settings are open at the back which make them so easy to wear!
There’s some minor nibbles to the gems, and a chip to the back of the pear cut stone. There’s some tarnishing to the metal, mainly to the silver. You can see on each piece where they originally were attached to other pieces in their previous lives. The cushion cut pendant sits at a slight angle as the bale is slightly off centre - I think the loop was added where the original attachment was, and it’s only slightly off centre. There’s some light wear to the gold, but really considering their age they’re in great shape and ready to wear!
The loops for the bales are later additions, and I’ve added the handmade 18ct gold bales so they can be worn as pendants. The original settings test as 14ct gold.
